Keller Texas

Keller is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas. It is part of the greater Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is considered a northern suburb of Fort Worth, which is about 18 miles away. According to the 2000 census, the population was 27,345 but recent estimates now place the population at around 37,000. The Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport is just 13 miles away. Tarrant County's has roots in the Old West and much of the area’s heritage can be traced to an era when cowboys and cattle drives passed through Keller. Major employers in the city include the city of Keller, DDMS, Foam Fabricators, Frost Banks, Entech, Corning Cable and Keller Independent School District. Keller is a very family-oriented community. About 79% of the adults here are married. If you enjoy being around kids and families, you will appreciate this city. There are over 20 school districts in Tarrant County with an enrollment of over 17,000 students. The Keller Independent School District has 11 elementary, 4 intermediate, 4 middle and 2 high schools.

The residents of Keller also tend to be fairly well off. The median family income in the city is $90,129, and less than 2% or its residents live in poverty. College degrees are also very common among Keller’s citizens. Politically, the city tends to be more Republican than Democrat. There is not a lot of public transportation, as 92% of commuters drive to work. Keller has very low rates of violent crime.

The real estate situation in Keller reflects the rapidly growing nature of the city. In 1980, Keller was less than 5,000 people, but today over 37,000 people call it home. This amazing growth has caused the city to expand in every direction, and new residential development continues this trend. Fortunately, the town did plan ahead for its growth and has also built a new town hall, recreation and aquatic center and municipal service center. In addition, the police and municipal courts facilities and departments have been expanded. Since a lot of Keller real estate has been constructed in recent years, housing is not cheap and property taxes can be somewhat pricey. However, this is the price one must pay to live in a city that has such excellent family services.

Keller has several shopping opportunities around town, including a JC Penny’s, Cabella’s and a Sam Moon coming soon. A couple of favorite restaurants and hang outs in Keller are the casual Up N Smoke BBQ, renowned for their ribs, and the aptly name No Frills Grill. Many of the region’s parks and lakes offer public trails for horseback riding, walking, hiking and roller-blading. Camping is also available at several state parks within the North Texas district.

Another recreational option for Keller citizens is Keller Pointe, a first class recreational facility that offers fitness training, aquatics and family fun. Keller also has numerous local festivals, including Arbor Days, Bedford Blues Festival, Mayfest, Grapefest, Pioneer Days, KellerFest, Art Fest and the Wild Wild West Fest. Also, there are over 20 public and private golf courses in Tarrant County. Golfing opportunities around Keller include Hidden Lakes Golf Course, Keller Practice Tee and Sky Creek Ranch.

Keller Texas is certainly an incredible place to call home but if you are considering moving here and Keller seems to pricey for your taste try checking out the cities of Plano, Frisco, McKinney or even Dallas itself.
