I read a recent survey that stressed the importance of curb appeal in the buying decision. I wish I could remember where I read that survey and spent over an hour trying to retrace my steps so I could quote and give credit to the right person but I have failed… failed miserably and I’m sorry. If you know who did the survey, please email me and let me know so I can give them credit.

Curb appeal on a Frisco Texas HomeAccording to this survey, 82 percent of real estate agents polled said that buyers unimpressed with the exterior of a home will not even want to look inside. The survey also found that 90 percent of those interviewed said a sale depended on the first impressions of the front entry and 91 percent said the exterior of the home is as important as what is inside the home.

I find this especially true for homes in the Dallas Texas Metroplex. So how can you improve your home’s curb appeal to sell better? Here are 5 ways to do just that.

Increase Curb Appeal To Sell Your Home

  1. Yard and Landscaping- Potted plants and a few decorative (classy, not trashy) items will add character to your home’s exterior. Colorful flowerbeds with fresh mulch and neatly pruned landscaping will also give a very positive first impression. Grass that is embedded with weeds will not be appealing to potential homebuyers so take the time to pull the weeds and spread weed control over your lawn.
  2. Lighting- Remember that potential home buyers will also drive by your home at night. A well lit exterior will make your home look inviting from the street. Leave a few lights on inside the house to give a warm glow from the exterior and replace or repair any exterior light bulbs and fixtures in need.
  3. Windows- You never really notice how filthy your windows are until after you wash them. Clean windows will add sparkle the exterior of your home. Use some good old-fashioned elbow grease or hire a window-washing service to clean windows and clear away cobwebs and debris.
  4. Entrance- Over time, your front door can begin to dull and look old. A fresh coat or paint or refinishing a wood door can make a world of difference. Replace old door knockers and handle sets that have dulled or where the finish has worn off.
  5. Paint and Siding- The paint and siding on your home should be in good shape and not peeling or chipping. I would suggest that you have these items fixed before listing your home. Poor upkeep on these areas can lead potential buyers to believe that the interior is in the same condition and bring you lower offers if any.
  6. If you are interested in selling your home and would like a professional opinion, we will be happy to coming out to your home and help you evaluate your home’s curb appeal. We can make recommendation on how it can be spruced up to help sell your home quickly.
