USA Gymnastics Visa Championship
The Visa Championships feature the country’s best gymnasts at both the junior and senior elite levels vying for national titles and spots on the U.S. National Team.

USA Gymnastics National Congress & Trade Show
The 45th Annual USA Gymnastics National Congress is a three day educational event open to the entire gymnastics community. Held in conjunction with the 2009 Visa Championships, National Congress provides a unique opportunity to attend presentations, demonstrations and educational seminars on a variety of topics within the sport – all in one location. 

22nd Annual Highland Village Lions Club Balloon Festival and Fair
Hot Air Balloon Races and Glows, Live Bands including Linda Atwell Duo, The Kat Moore Band, The Fog, Cross Timbers Bluegrass, The Jesse Vick Band, Joe Jonas Band, Games, Art & Crafts Booths, Food, Bounce Houses, Car Bash, Raffle Prizes, JROTC, Model T Ford Collection boxes for eyeglasses, sunglasses and cell phones. Parking $5 donation. 

Arthouse 5×7 On The Road
Five x Seven is an annual fundraiser, art sale and exhibition benefiting Arthouse exhibitions and educational programs. Hundreds of recognized contemporary artists with strong ties to Arthouse create unique works of art on identical 5″ x 7″ boards. Each board is only $100.    

Earth-Kind Environmental Stewardship Day
Come out for this annual day-long series of classes and learn about WaterWise gardening, water conservation, and environmental stewardship for home owners. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy the beauty of the gardens. 9 to 3 pm. 

In Rockwall:  

Dog Days of Summer
The first “Dog Days of Summer” will be celebrated August 15th on the south side of the courthouse on the Downtown Square during the Farmer’s Market from 8 a.m. until noon.  There will be contests which will include Best Costume, Best Doggy Trick and Best Smooch.  Registration begins at 8 a.m. and contest starts 8:30 a.m., the cost is $5 per dog. 

Doggie Swim Day
Bring you doggie down to Myers Park pool at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m to cool off on August 15th.  There will be a swim suit contest, a dog paddle race and retrieving contest.  Proof of current rabies vaccination is required and the cost is $5 per dog.

In Plano: 

Quilt Plano 2009
The Quilters Guild of Plano presents their 10th biennial quilt show observing over 27 years serving the greater Plano area.  There will be approximately 300 quilts on display, a miniature quilt auction, kids quilts on exhibit, over 35 vendors selling and demonstrating quilt related products and sewing machines as well as longarm quilting machines.
