McKinney operates a fantastic set of swimming schemes, featuring 6 levels of qualification. Each part of the course is taken in turn, starting from level 1 which includes learning basic floatation techniques and basic water sense. The course then progresses through each level, building upon the skills learned and mastered in previous levels. Several styles of stroke are taught at various stages within the overall teaching plan, the culmination of which is level 6, which takes all of the previously learned skills and teaches the student how to incorporate them into a tailor made cardiovascular workout. There is also the immensely popular Lil Swimmer scheme, which is aimed at teaching swimming fundamentals to young children without their parents to support them.

Golfing in McKinney
McKinney is lucky to house the exceptionally well planned golf course of Oak Hollow Golf. Nine years ago the course was given a multi-million dollar make over, the result of which was a stunning 18 hole championship golf course on premium McKinney real estate. Recent years have seen further improvements in the landscaping, including the planting of over 150 trees. The course was designed to offer good value gold which would be a challenge to amateur golfers and be fairly forgiving to novice players. The site offers full golfing facilities including a pro shop and practice greens. The tournament pavilion makes a great focal point for match players.

McKinney Museums
McKinney is home to a pair of exceptionally good quality museums. The Colin County Farm Museum was originally developed to educate people about the history of farming within the county. The museum is managed by the North Texas History Center and displays equipment from many periods of farming history. There is also a working blacksmith with regular demonstrations and a functioning granary. The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary is a fascinating place. It attempts to create a natural habitat for a huge selection of wildlife that it keeps within its protective arms. Often themed exhibits are run, such as the popular Rat Snakes to Rattlers Texas Snakes exhibition. It also organize many events each year, most aimed at imparting a greater knowledge of wildlife and the environment to its many visitors, young and old alike.

McKinney is a place with a real laid back, Texan feel to it, recreation and entertainment amenities reflect this old town charm, making McKinney a great place for children to grow in surroundings that will teach them the value of the environment and instill old world values. Certainly a place to enjoy life at a slower pace and soak up some of that Texan style charm.
