Southlake Texas Events and Festivals
The City of Southlake is the home of a wealth of events and festivals each year, from small locally organized neighborhood events to nationally famed annual festivals. Three yearly events stand out as being major dates in the Southlake calendar.
Southlake Art in the Square
This annual event is hosted by the Southlake Women’s Club and is a three day juried art festival. The event is held in the Southlake town square and is free to the public. In 2007 over 140 national and local artists were part of the event, including children’s artists and localized craft activists. Entertainment is provided throughout the event and the impressive food court is loved by all. Families will be please to know there is a special place set aside for young children to show their talents and try a Variety of hands on activities such as face painting, spin art, sugar art and colored hair spray. What originally started as an art event has grown into a full blown family festival extravaganza with art as its theme.
Southlake Stars and Stripes Celebration
Each year, in Southlake town square, a huge firework display is organized to celebrate Independence Day. Each year this event has grown and it now represents a major festival in the Southlake event calendar. The display starts at 9:30pm. Food and drink is on sale from a variety of booths and stalls, although visitors are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, and lawn chairs and enjoy their own picnic food. The event has a strict alcohol ban, so a non-alcoholic picnic is in order. The event is free and is designed to provide entertainment for the whole family. Musical performances are staged by local artists such as the Southlake Swing Band and Southlake Community Band and Choir. This is a great event for the whole family, each year the firework display grows and becomes more impressive.
Oktoberfest in Southlake
Oktoberfest is an event for the whole family to enjoy. Based in the town square, this weekend long celebration is free to enter. It features art and craft exhibitions, showcasing a large range of handmade wares. Live entertainment is provided throughout the event, including dancing and amateur music recitals. A large children’s area makes keeping the young ones amused an easy task. And of course, Oktoberfest would not be complete without copious amounts of food and drink. Lots of German inspired music, plenty of beer and right on the lake, this really is an event that no resident of Southlake wants to miss. This is also a relatively inexpensive event to attend, as much of the food and drink is subsidized by sponsors.
As we can see by these three quite different festivals, Southlake plays host to a diverse range of events each year. Whatever your tastes in food, music or just plain fun, as a resident of Southlake you will surely decided which event is your favorite each year, or maybe you will just visit them all!
